For us at Carlson Agility, our life revolves around dog agility. It’s our passion, and nothing is more fun for us (and our dogs!) than to get out on the course and enjoy some practice time using our agility equipment. Dog agility is one of the most popular dog sports today, and the enthusiasm for the sport continues to grow and there are several reasons why.
1. Dog Agility Is A Sport For Every Dog
There are many different dog sports out there, including more well-known enterprises such as herding contests, sled dog racing and flying disc competitions. However, while these are all fun to watch and fun for the participating dogs and owners, they aren’t widely accessible for many different sizes and breeds of dogs. After all, a schnauzer isn’t going to be able to lug a sled and cocker spaniels aren’t known for their herding prowess. Many dogs will never be able to dart and leap after a flying disc, either.
With dog agility, just about any healthy dog can participate. Dog agility contests are open to all sizes and breeds of dogs, including mixed breeds, and all that matters is that your dog enjoys the sport and is able to follow the rules of each individual contest regarding all the different types of agility equipment that are set up on an agility dog course.
2. Agility Equipment Provides Engaging Exercise
The idea that dog agility is more accessible is just one reason for its popularity. Dog agility equipment and agility training also provides an excellent outlet for your dog’s energy. Dogs love to run about and play, and using agility equipment not only releases their energy, it also provides them with interesting tasks. While a daily walk is always something a dog enjoys, they also crave different types of exercise. Variety is the spice of life and not just for humans; dogs also enjoy a variety of fun activities.
Dog agility can be an ideal way to add some variety to your dog’s exercise routine. Just imagine the fun your dog will have navigating all the elements on an agility dog course.
3. The Well-Trained Dog
If you’ve seen dogs zip around the agility equipment course, you probably were not just amazed at their skill but also with their ability to follow commands. An agility dog is a well-trained dog and that’s another side benefit of agility training. Learning how to follow commands and building a solid relationship between dog and owner are huge components of dog agility training. But this doesn’t just help you out for agility competitions; a well-behaved dog that follows your commands in general is a safer, happier and more pleasant companion. Your entire relationship can be transformed through dog agility training on an agility dog course.
Of course, dog agility is just plain fun for everyone and your whole family can get involved. You can train at home, join a local agility club or perhaps enjoy a combination of both. Agility classes are a great way to get started and gauge whether or not your dog will enjoy the fun of zipping around a dog agility course. Once you are sure that dog agility is a great option for you and your pet, you can then purchase some dog agility equipment for home use.
We have every imaginable piece of agility equipment you might need, fitting the requirements of all the different dog agility organizations. In addition to full-size agility equipment, we have all types of mini agility equipment, which can be great for smaller dogs, puppy agility training and even just trying to set up a full dog agility course in your backyard.
